Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Octet

His father was Chico O’Farrill, one of the architects of Afro Cuban Jazz and in 1995, Arturo agreed to direct the band that preserved much of his father’s music, the Chico O’Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra. Currently, Arturo’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra continues the tradition every Sunday night at Birdland in New York City, which has for decades been a magnet for jazz artists and jazz fans alike.

As an educator, Arturo has taught master classes, seminars, and workshops throughout the world for students and teachers of all levels.  He is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at Brooklyn College.

He comes to us with the Afro Latin Jazz Octet, combining the classic jazz combo with a sizzling horn and percussion section in an exhilarating evening of Latin rhythms, a taste of big band music and some cool jazz.
