The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts has appointed Cindy Campbell as its Executive Director, effective January 1.
A spokesperson said, “Mrs. Campbell succeeds David Skinner, Chairman of the Festival, who has been acting as interim Executive Director since April 2019.
“Mrs. Campbell is a highly effective leader with significant experience in industry as well as in working with non-profit organizations.Mrs. Campbell has a varied career that includes experience in both the performing arts and business.
“She has an undergraduate university degree in theatre management and has held positions as the resident set and costume designer for a professional children’s theatre company and Production Stage Manager for Opera Carolina for both their main stage and student outreach programmes.
“She is also a Chartered Professional Accountant who specializes in strategic planning and project management and has been working for the last 21 years in the insurance industry in Bermuda.
“Locally, Mrs. Campbell has led the American Societies 4th of July Celebrations “Celebrating Freedom Giving Back to the Community” which, for the year’s she was Chairman, saw over 6,000 Bermudians and Americans celebrate and which contributed over $100,000 back into the charitable community of Bermuda. More recently, she was the Chairman of the 2017 Tall Ship Festival.”
Festival Chairman David Skinner said, “We are very pleased to welcome Cindy to the Festival, and we are fortunate to have found someone of her calibre to lead the organisation as we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Bermuda Festival.
“I look forward to working closely with Cindy as we build on the last 45 years and take the Festival on to greater heights serving our entire community of residents and visitors alike.”
Ms. Campbell said, “Performing arts are vital to a healthy society. Studies have shown that students who are involved in performing arts are better students and perform better academically.
“Communities benefit from performing arts because there are truly no barriers. Regardless of race, religion, age or gender, everyone can appreciate a fine performance and join together in the celebration of the experience.
“I am looking forward to helping build upon the last 45 years of fabulous performances and to lead the Festival to continue reach out and entertain, educate and inspire Bermudians in the future.”
